Bill McKibben has launched a worldwide campaign to reduce greenhouse gases in the atmosphere to 350 ppm by 2050. Meanwhile, President Bush has said we should try to slow the rate of increase by 2025.
CO2 (the biggest component of greenhouse gases) is currently near 380 ppm and increasing about 10 ppm each year.
Unlike the rest of the world, current US political leadership and much of the media suggest to an often gullible public that the increase may not be man made. Nonetheless, there’s little disagreement about the increase or the coming devastating changes in the planet’s climate. Many scientists think we’re at or past the tipping point for turning the corner.
Two different approaches to humanity’s biggest challenge. For me, I’m with Bill McKibben.
